Systems Administrator

Core ResponsibilitiesServer & Endpoint Administration

  • Manage and execute patching cycles for Windows Server and endpoints using established change control procedures
  • Monitor patch compliance, identify failures, and remediate in a timely manner
  • Maintain server health and performance; review event logs and alerts proactively
  • Support and maintain the Nutanix AHV hyperconverged environment under direction, with expectation to grow into independent ownership
  • Administer VM lifecycle (provisioning, snapshots, decommission) using established templates and standards

Identity & Access Management

  • Administer Active Directory and Entra ID: create, modify, and disable user and computer accounts following defined onboarding/offboarding procedures
  • Manage security group memberships, M365 license assignments, and role-based access in alignment with least-privilege principles
  • Perform periodic access reviews and report findings to the IT Manager
  • Enforce MFA enrollment and conditional access policy compliance

End User & Vendor Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for end-user support issues across workstations, printers, peripherals, and standard applications
  • Manage vendor support cases for hardware, software, and connectivity issues —

including ISP tickets, warranty RMAs, and open case follow-up — through to resolution

  • Coordinate equipment procurement, receiving, and asset tracking in the IT inventory system
  • Provide support for M365 applications including Teams, SharePoint, Exchange Online, and OneDrive

Backup & Continuity

  • Monitor daily backup job completion; investigate and resolve failures; escalate before retention thresholds are at risk
  • Perform periodic restore tests and document results
  • Maintain awareness of recovery objectives and escalate proactively when any system deviates from baseline

Security & Compliance (CMMC Level 2)

  • Perform routine security hygiene tasks including EDR/AV alert review, log monitoring, and vulnerability scan support
  • Assist in remediating findings from vulnerability scans in accordance with prioritization guidance from the IT Manager
  • Apply and maintain security configurations in accordance with established baselines and CMMC Level 2 control requirements
  • Escalate anomalies, policy deviations, or potential incidents to the IT Manager promptly and with clear documentation
  • Support audit preparation activities including evidence collection, access log review, and configuration verification

Documentation & Process

  • Maintain accurate, current documentation: runbooks, network and system diagrams, asset inventory, and change records
  • Update ticketing system entries with sufficient detail to support handoff and audit trail requirements
  • Identify gaps in existing documentation and draft or update accordingly
  • Communicate status, blockers, and escalations clearly and proactively without waiting to be asked

QualificationsRequired

  • 3–5 years of hands-on systems administration experience in a Windows-centric environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Active Directory administration (users, groups, GPOs, OUs)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration: Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Entra ID, Intune or equivalent MDM
  • Solid understanding of Windows Server (2019/2022) administration, including roles, features, and event log analysis
  • Experience managing endpoint and server patching in a production environment
  • Familiarity with backup technologies and the discipline to monitor and verify job health daily
  • Ability to manage vendor relationships and drive open cases to closure independently
  • Strong written communication skills; able to produce clear documentation without prompting

Preferred

  • Experience with Nutanix AHV or comparable hyperconverged/virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Exposure to ISO, CMMC, NIST SP 800-171, or equivalent federal compliance frameworks
  • Networking fundamentals: VLANs, DNS, DHCP, firewall rule review
  • PowerShell scripting for administrative automation and reporting
  • Experience in a manufacturing, aerospace, or defense-adjacent environment

Certifications (a plus, not required)

  • Microsoft certifications: MD-102, AZ-104, SC-300, or equivalent
  • CompTIA Security+, Network+, or CySA+
